Some years ago in south Florida a little boy went for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his home. In a hurry, he 1 into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the 2 of the lake, an alligator（钝吻鳄） was swimming toward the shore. His mother in the house 3 the window saw the two as they got 4 together. In great fear, she ran toward the water, 5 to her son as 6 as she could. Hearing her voice, the little boy became alarmed and 7 a U-turn to swim to his mother. It was too 8 . Just as he reached her, the alligator reached him. The mother 9 her little boy by the arms just as the alligator caught his 10 . That began an unbelievable tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much 11 than the mother, but the mother didn't let go. A farmer happened to 12 by, heard her screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator.
